The Childrens Museum Indianapolis is one of the coolest museums for families. If you have a dinosaur, space, outdoor sport and ancient history lover, it’s especially amazing!

This is definitely not your typical museum. The Children’s Museum in Indianapolis, Indiana is a ton of fun and exciting to visit, for hours! The Dinosphere is full of dinosaur fossils, bones and a paleontology lab where you can talk to paleontologists and see them working. There’s an ancient egyptian area with some very cool artifacts, hieroglyphics and even a mummy and Terra Cotta Warriors area. The Space station is another awesome place full of space history, learning about how life/living in space would be, trying on space suits, seeing artifacts, and some cool activities. There are so many more things to explore as well, like the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, Riley Sport Experience outside, Playscape, American Pop, All Aboard train, Carousel and so much more!
Tips before you visit
The Children’s Museum Indianapolis is the perfect way to spend a day.
Here are some tips before you visit:
- Tickets can be purchased in advance for the day by picking your date. Time won’t matter, you can stay all day!
- Parking is FREE
- Under 2 are FREE
- There’s a food court inside and concessions outside serving various food and drink items.
- Large gift shop on site.
- There’s a LOT to do here. You can plan to stay the whole day.
- Members get discount tickets and a discount at the food court.
- Special admission on first Thursdays of every month, $6 from 4-8pm!
What it's like
Firstly, let’s talk about DINOSAURS! If you have a dino lover, this is the absolute coolest place to to visit. They have realistic looking dino statues with a whole dedicated area for dinosaur exploration. There’s a paleontology lab with real paleontologists at work that are very happy to answer questions and talk about their recent discoveries. There’s some interactive activities and art that kids can work on. Lastly, the area is filled with fossils, skeletons, bones and lots of facts and history.
Then there is The National Geographic Treasures of the Earth area. This is another amazing place where you can find everything from Terra Cotta Warrior artifacts to hieroglyphics and an underwater shipwreck site. This exhibit is NOT one to pass up! Check out the pictures below.
The Spaceship station has a lot to offer too. You can dress up in a partial spacesuit and look at the view from a spaceship. You can also learn about the history of space exploration and how it would be to live in a spaceship for a while. There some cool interactive shows, digital games and artifacts as well.
