Milwaukee Art Museum

The Milwaukee Art Museum in Wisconsin is a sight to behold with an exterior design by Santiago Calatrava, of a ship on the shore of Lake Michigan. It’s structure features a 217-wingspan that unfolds when the museum opens, flaps at noon and folds at night.

The breathtaking exterior is just a glimpse of what you can expect to see inside. The Milwaukee Art Museum houses over 34,000 objects on four levels, featuring many different artistic traditions from across centuries and continents.

  • Kids 12 and under are always FREE
  • Free wifi throughout
  • Check their website for free days & events
  • Thursdays 4-8pm are pay-as-you-wish days
  • There’s a LOT to see, plan to stay for a couple of hours
  • Enjoy the scenery and stroll along Lake Michigan
  • There is a Museum Cafe and gift shop 

What it's like

At the Milwaukee Art Museum, you will be awe-inspired just entering the museum. The architechture of the building itself is a sight to behold. Inside is not the slightest disappointment, as the space is vast, clean and beautifully appointed to showcase very uniqe pieces of art. There are many rooms and spaces with various objects, paintings and other art. Throughout the rooms and spaces, there are reflection benches, couches and chairs so that one can study and appreciate all of the unique and beautiful things they see.

Events & Learning

The Milwaukee Art Museum also features many events for all ages. For kids there’s The Kohl’s Art Studio and family Sundays, play dates, story time and other fun events. For teens there are internships, classes and art programs. Adults also have options including lectures, talks, tours, sessions and more. Even teachers are offered resources and tours.
